LGBTQ Brand Humphry Slocombe Gears Up for Pride
Expect free scoops, fun events and a myriad of ways to give back to the community
San Francisco, California (May 30, 2019) – The rebellious and unapologetic ice creamery Humphry Slocombe is gearing up to honor and celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month with free ice cream, incredible flavors and collaborations, not-to-be-missed events and of course, giving back to the community throughout June.
Born in one of the largest and most prominent LGBTQ communities in the world, Humphry Slocombe first set up shop in the Mission District of San Francisco in 2008 and has since established itself as a leader in cutting-edge flavors and uncompromising quality by pioneering ice cream made with locally sourced fruits, veggies, spices and booze. Co-Founders Jake Godby (Chef) and Sean Vahey (Director of Public Relations & Marketing) – who are both members of the LGBTQ community – use their extensive culinary backgrounds to create ice cream that appeals to an adult sensibility but is loved by all.
An LGBTQ brand, Humphry Slocombe is known for its quirky flavors and creative collaborations, the most prominent of which include the Harvey Milk and Honey Graham flavor created in honor of the gay rights activist and icon, and the Queer Eye Cookies + Graham flavor, a special collaboration flavor made in partnership with the Emmy-winning show in time for its highly anticipated Season 3 launch.
Throughout June, Humphry Slocombe plans to highlight its special flavors and has partnered with key non-profit organizations to ensure the hard work being done for justice and equality continues for future generations.
“I moved to San Francisco so that I could be my true and open self and to be completely free in an accepting, inclusive community,” said Vahey. “To then be able to operate a business in this city has truly been the cherry on top of the sundae of my life, and to partner with incredible organizations that fight tooth and nail for the betterment of the LGBTQ community, especially during Pride month, is an honor.”
SPECIAL PRIDE FLAVORS AND SUNDAES
All month long, Humphry Slocombe will be scooping some of its best Pride flavors in dip cases across all five locations. Special Pride flavors include the Queer Eye Cookies & Graham (featuring olive oil ice cream with chocolate cookies and graham crackers for an elevated spin on cookies and cream), the Juanita MORE! (blackberry ice cream with ginger and whiskey, inspired by the namesake cocktail created for iconic SF-based drag queen, Juanita MORE!), the Who’s Your Daddy (featuring rotating beer flavors for your dad or daddy), the Strawberry Blondie (strawberry ice cream with white chocolate chip blondies), the Harvey Milk and Honey Graham (raw blackberry honey ice cream with house made graham crackers) and The Glenlivet (12 year old Glenlivet ice cream). Specialty sundaes also available for purchase include the Queer Eye Smores Sundae (featuring 1 scoop Cookies and Graham topped with hot fudge and torched fluff) and the Make It Gay Sundae (2 Scoops of the guest’s choice with pink fluff and Fruit Loops).
For fans of the ice creamery who live outside of California, Humphry Slocombe has put together a special Pride Ice Cream Pack of 6 pints, available for nationwide shipping on GoldBelly. Available throughout June, the Pride Pack features 2 pints of the Queer Eye Cookies & Graham, 2 pints of the Honey Graham and 2 Pints of the Strawberry Blondie.
GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
While there have been significant strides made towards equality for the LGBTQ community, there are many organizations working hard to continue to eliminate discrimination, provide access to education and healthcare, and protect basic rights. Humphry Slocombe has partnered with two key organizations to make charitable donations to throughout the month of June.
In all five scoop shops, $1 from the sales of the Juanita MORE! flavor will be donated to the San Francisco based GLBT Historical Society. Founded in 1985, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) Historical Society is recognized internationally as a leader in the field of LGBTQ public history.
“The successes of the LGBTQ movement are as unprecedented as they are under threat,” said Juanita MORE! in regard to the beneficiary she selected for her flavor partnership with Humphry Slocombe. “The work of institutions like the GLBT Historical Society in maintaining the archives are critical tools for inspiring future generations to advocate for social justice. The Archives and Research Center are among the largest of their kind, attracting leading researchers from around the world. As the GLBT Historical Society renews its search for a permanent home, my hope is that making them the beneficiary of my Pride festivities will bring the visibility and extra funding necessary to make that campaign a success. San Francisco needs a permanent home for its LGBTQ museum, and you can help.”
Nationwide, $5 from the sales of the Humphry Slocombe Pride Pack on Goldbelly will go to the Los Angeles based STORIES: The AIDS Monument, as will $3 from local LA delivery sales of any pint ordered through Caviar. STORIES: The AIDS Monument aims to memorialize, celebrate and educate, remembering lost loved ones, celebrating the caregivers, activists and community leaders who fought for and continue to fight for an end to HIV/AIDS, and educating the public on the history and cultural impact of the ongoing epidemic.
